Plumbline’s Christmas On Us Program Celebrates Fifth Year Supporting People in Need

January 02, 2020

Each November since 2014, Plumbline asks our neighbors to nominate special people in their lives for our $1,000 Christmas On Us program. This allows us to help brighten the holidays for people in need and shine a spotlight on people making a difference in our community.

This year we received over 250 nominations, more than ever before. Thank you to everyone who submitted and helped us read through the nominations to assist in narrowing down to our final 10 families.

We are excited to introduce you to our 2019 Christmas On Us recipients! Read below to learn more about our recipients from the folks who nominated them.

  1. Michael C.

“Michael is an amazing man. He exemplifies the best of the best among us in our community and deserves recognition for his compassion, dedication, and selfless attitude to step up and raise children in Aurora foster care as his kin.”

  2. Christine B.

“She is such a giver. She spends her time volunteering for events and giving back to the community. Today she donated an entire Thanksgiving dinner to me and my family even though I know she could have used it herself.”

  3. Angela & Tim H.

“Angela and Tim help with the Strasburg fire department as volunteers, working when they can.  They are volunteer medical staff for the Colorado Rumble, which is a professional indoor soccer team. They help with other community organizations, volunteering with Littleton Public Schools Foundation and Hot Chocolate 15k/5k (which benefits Make a Wish) to name a few. They are always thinking of others.”

  4. Michael & Carie P.

“I have seen these two in their darkest times give their last dollar to a homeless person. I've seen them pull over to help strangers get pulled out of the ditch in the snow. I've seen Carie give man CPR when he collapsed and was having a heart attack. Then that man came back a week later to thank her.

Even though they live modestly and don't have any money to spare, they still go out of their way to help others. Mike is always out helping to shovel the walks, picking up trash, helping carry groceries in, and helping with anything that he sees. They even rescue stray animals.”

  5. Evan & Amanda C.

“Each time that Amanda and Evan went to the hospital to have their children, they took gift cards and snacks to the nurses at the hospital because they recognize how hard medical personnel work. The children regularly donate their toys, books, and clothing to charity. They also visit the local fire station and deliver cookies or cranberry bread to the firefighters to show their appreciation for their service.”

  6. Jess & Shawna L.

“Jess is an injured veteran that helps coach his children’s sports, donates his time to injured vet causes and involves his children, and helps run a non-profit to provide free therapy for children with autism. The mother is involved in youth and homeless causes to help those less fortunate- all while raising five kids of their own (one with special needs).”

  7. Ashley W.

“Ashley is in charge of a Sub For Santa project every Christmas. This year, she is coordinating toys, gifts, clothing, and food for 50 underprivileged children in our community. She works tirelessly from the beginning of October through December to make this happen. Ashley also runs a nonprofit company called the Performers With Purpose Foundation.”

  8. Fanny H.

“Fanny and her family work with at-risk kids and teens in the Denver area. They personally have helped me and many, many, many families without expecting nothing in return. They work with kids and teens that have been classified as “lost cause” by schools, teacher and even us as parents at times.”

  9. Tony H.

“He and his son come weekly to the library to tutor kids. Either before or after, he gets a box out of his truck with non-perishable food, blankets, coats; whatever he can bring. This man is a treasure.”

  10. Sandra S.

“My friend Sandra is a single mom with two girls. She also took in her high school-aged sister last year, and shortly after that, she took custody of one of her students and his three brothers (she was teaching grades K-2 at that time). These four boys, ages 3-11, were being neglected and physically abused.”

These people are truly EXTRAordinary, and we are proud to be able to give back to them a portion of what they’ve given to our community this holiday season. A few photos of some of the nominees are below.

Plumbline would not be able to help these great people without all of your hard work, so THANK YOU! We appreciate all of you.

$10,000 Holiday On Us: December 2016

December 30, 2016

For many families, December is a time of celebration, family fun, and festive holiday traditions. But we know for some, this time of the year can be a real struggle. That’s why Plumbline Services gave $10,000 to ten deserving individuals in the Denver Metro Area for a “Holiday On Us.”

This was Plumbline Services’ 2nd annual “Holiday On Us” program where we asked you, the community, to nominate an individual who is an ExtraordinAIRy Treasure to our community.

We received over 100 nominations of truly ExtraordinAIRy individuals and selected 10 of them to receive $1,000 for a “Holiday On Us”. These nominations included an essay explaining why their nominee is deserving. The 10 individuals that were selected were chosen based on their character, integrity, heart, compassion and overall ability to be ExtraordinAIRy Treasures to their community.

These individuals were:

  1. Scot Abernathy
  2. Jason Kruger
  3. Joel Cook
  4. Karen Theisen
  5. Zach & America Macaluso
  6. Susan Renik
  7. Kim Davis
  8. The Alverez Family
  9. Samantha Salgado
  10. Josh Musgrave

On December 20th we had a celebration with our 2016 “Holiday On Us” recipients and their nominators at the Bonneville radio station in Greenwood Village, CO where we presented their $1,000 checks. They truly are ExtraordinAIRy Treasures to our community and we are honored to pay it forward to individuals who sacrifice their time, money, energy and resources to help others when they themselves could use a little help. We would also like to thank KOSI 101 and KYGO for partnering with us and helping to make this program another success.

Below is a short video showing a small part of why each recipient was chosen!
