Plumbline Participates in Light the Night and Walk out of Darkness Awareness Events

October 02, 2019

Plumbline Services is dedicated to our community and making improvements for everyone. As community stewards, we’re excited to participate in two awareness walks supporting those in our community going through difficult medical situations.

Read below to learn more and to see photos of our amazing staff participating.

Light the Night

Light the Night walks occur throughout the United States by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The walks bolster LLS’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma. In addition, they improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This is an important mission as approximately every three minutes, someone in the US is diagnosed with blood cancer.

On September 26th, a group of Plumbline Employees and family members joined the LLS on the Light the Night walk. Check out the photos of us supporting this incredible organization below!

Out of the Darkness

Out of Darkness’s walks benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Since 1987, AFSP has helped thousands of people who have lost a family member, loved one, or friend to suicide. They also offer support for thousands more who are at risk for suicide. This is especially important for the Denver area, as Colorado's teenage suicide rate is nearly twice the national average.

AFSP focuses on finding better ways to prevent suicide, creating a culture that is sensitive to mental health and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. That’s why we were very proud to be apart of this year’s walk on September 21st. See our photos!

Walks for a Cause: September 2018

September 30, 2018

Awareness walks are a wonderful way to help support great causes. This month we supported two different awareness walks, for two different causes that are close to the hearts of our team; Light the Night and Walk Out of Darkness.

Light the Night is a walk that supports cancer research, patients, survivors and their families. Light the Night walks are planned and executed all throughout the United States by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The LLS was created for researching cutting-edge treatments, providing patients access to those treatments and working with state and federal representatives for the betterment of cancer treatments.

On September 27th, a group of Plumbline Employees and family members got together and joined the LLS on the Light the Night walk at Washington Park. It was, like always, an amazingly beautiful event.

Walk Out of Darkness supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Since 1987, AFSP has reached thousands of people who have lost a family member, loved one or friend to suicide, as well as thousands more who are at risk for suicide.

The AFSP focuses on finding better ways to prevent suicide, creating a culture that’s smart about mental health and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

Suicide has become a taboo subject that many people would rather ignore. However, on September 22nd it was incredible seeing how many people came out to support that change.

“This walk means so much to me.  I’ve attempted to take my own life before. I never felt as if I had someone to talk to about my depression, I never wanted to bother anyone with what I was dealing with. I know now that there is so much help out there from attending the walk and that I am not alone. Out of the darkness is awesome outlet for your emotions great source for information at the stations set up.  I will continue to go each year.” – Christine, employee

These are two causes that deserve as much attention as possible. Plumbline Services is proud to support them.

Walks For A Cause: September 2017

September 29, 2017

During the month of September, we had the opportunity to be involved in two incredible organizations. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Both of these organizations hold a special place in the hearts of our team at Plumbline Services.

In support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we created a team to participate in their Out of Darkness Walk. The Out of Darkness Walk honors, remembers, educates and raises money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). According to the AFSP website, suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. among adults 18-65. It is the second leading cause of death among teens and young adults, and ages 65 and older account for 16% of all suicide deaths. The funds raised by AFSP and the Out of Darkness Walk are used to help understand suicide, learn ways to prevent it and create new educational programs. Plumbline Services is proud to be involved in this extremely important cause.

There is never a good time to hear “you have cancer”. However, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, with the help of Light the Night walks all over the country, brings a little light to the dark times. Unlike other cancers, there is no means of early screening for most blood cancers. So, the LLS promotes walks, such as Light the Night, to raise money for research to find cures for blood cancers. The society also helps cancer survivors and their families gain access to quality, affordable and coordinated care. LLS does amazing things to help relieve the heavy burden that is placed upon the shoulders of those diagnosed with cancer. We were honored to be apart of the local Light the Night event this year and look forward to the years to come.

Both of these organizations provide light to those around them. Their goal is to help those in need and it was an honor to help them get a little bit closer to that goal!
