Featured Lakewood story

Water Heater Leaking from the Bottom of the Tank

Bottom of a water heater.

Bottom of a water heater.

Tammy B., a Lakewood homeowner, called us saying that her water heater was leaking at the bottom. When one of our plumbing specialists, Marc, arrived, he saw that the leak’s origin was the tank itself.

Keep in mind:

A water heater can leak at 2 places at the bottom:

  • Around the drain valve (spigot) (see photo). In this case, you need to have a plumber replace the drain valve, which is relatively easy.

  • From the tank itself. In this case, you’ll need to install a new water heater ASAP. Otherwise your water heater could eventually burst and flood your home.

Since the leak was from the tank, our plumbing specialist installed a new water heater (50-gallon AO Smith).
